Youth Poetry Contest and member of GFWC Somo Sala Circle
55 poems were entered from 13 of the 18 schools in the Hamblen County System. Local judges chose the top three in each Category. The GFWC of Morristown presented certificates and monetary prizes to the local winners. Their poems were forwarded on to compete in District and then State events.
Category 1, grades 1, 2 & 3:
First Place: Anna Doyle, grade 3, West Elementary School (Ms. Taylor) "Snowflakes"
Second Place: Calista Psichopaidas, grade 3, Alpha Elementary (Miss Camp) "Winter"
Third Place: Martina Hoffa, grade 2, Lincoln Heights Elementary (Mrs. Rasch) "Clouds"
Category 2, grades 4, 5 & 6:
First Place: Elissa Borchert, grade 6, West View Middle School (Miss Doty) "Moon Dance"
Second Place: Dionne Allen, grade 5, Union Heights Elementary School (Leslie Grigsby) "Emotions"
Third Place: Icker Garcia, grade 4, West Elementary School (Miss Atkins) "Sailboat"
Category 3, grades 7, 8 & 9:
First Place Brandon T. Hayes, grade 7, West View Middle School (Leigh Stewart) "Creation's Unfinished Canvas"
Second Place: Leslee Howard, grade 8, West View Middle (Ms. Keesler) "I Said Nothing"
Third Place: Rebecca Ridgeway, grade 9, East High School (Linda Lamar) "Send Me A Guardian Angel"
